Sharing the secrets of raising funds for nonprofits

As part of the free capacity development programmes organized for nonprofits, a one day workshop on fundraising was organized on 19 September 2014 at Thomson Reuters Foundation auditorium at Ballard Estate, Mumbai. 

Of the 28 registered participants from 22 NGOs, 18 participants from 15 NGOs turned up for the workshop. Few persons came from New Delhi and Andhra Pradesh to attend the workshop.

The workshop with a brief round of self introductions where the participants shared details about their funding sources and activities. This was followed by detailed overview on fundraising components wherein the participants shared their success stories of fundraising.

10.05 a.m. : Address by Ms. Urvashi Devidayal, Programme Director South Asia, Trustlaw,

10.15 a.m.: Self Introduction by Participants and check in on Facebook
10.30 a.m. : Brainstorming of NGO success/challenges of  fundraising
11.00 a.m. : Tea break
11.15 a.m.:  Overview of Fundraising by Dr. V.Shubhalaxmi
12.00 p.m. :  Q/A session with Funding Agencies (Mr. Prasad Shetty, Secretary Mumbai Metropolitan
                     Environmental Improvement Society, Ms. Jasmine Pavri, Development Consultant/Advisor,
                     Sir Dorabji Tata Trust)
1.00   p.m. : Lunch break ( Lunch will be provided for those who booked it with us)
1.30 p.m.  :  Group Work: Developing a Fundraising Plan for an organization
2.30 p.m.  : Group presentation and discussions

The participants were joined by Mr. Prasad Shetty from MMRDA and Ms. Jasmine Pavri who was working with Sir Dorabji Tata trust in the afternoon who interacted with the participants. The post lunch session include overview on online fundraising which was largely unheard by the participants. 







At the end the participants worked in groups to develop fundraising plans for one of the NGO in the group. The groups presented and learned from each other. The workshop concluded on positive note where majority of participants expressed that the workshop has made them feel confident to carry out fundraising for their NGO. 







The workshop ended with a vote of thanks to our venue Partner Trustlaw of Thomson Reuters Foundation and special thanks to their Asma Khatiwalla,Programme Officer who made the entire event possible. Lastly thanks to Jannie Fernandes, the student volunteer who helped with administrative works and photography.
